Kate Tales Foundation is a literary non-profit organization that promotes girl child education, women empowerment and emerging writer’s development.
In past years, Kate Tales Foundation has reached out to various schools and street children, as well as organizing art exhibition for female artists, Authors Talk for young upcoming writers and seminars, training for women and girls in Nigeria. Earlier this year, her founder, 21 years old Kate Ekanem who is a writer and a girl’s right activist was chosen to represent African Union in the Girl20 Summit that would bring together twenty-four girls from different countries around the world. At the summit, they would be trained on how to economically engage girls and women in their Countries.
Representing Africa, Kate is to return to Nigeria after the summit to launch a project that would economically engage girls and women in Africa. After the Summit in October, Kate Tales Foundation would be launching its ‘African Women Empowerment’ project that would revolve the North, South, East, and West Africa (Nigeria, Namibia, Ethiopia and Morocco). The project is a response to the African Union‘s theme for 2015 which is Women Empowerment and a response to the Girl20 Summit’s goal.
African Women Empowerment project would train disadvantage young girl and women in Nigeria, Namibia, Ethiopia and Morocco in Photography (Art) Computer (ICT) and Bead-making (Life-skill). This project would be spiced up with skills and ideas in which Kate Tales Foundation would bring from the Girl 20 Summit. And it would no doubt change the lives of more than two thousand disadvantaged girls and women in Africa. The trainees at the end of the project would be assisted to start a micro-enterprise and train others in their various communities.
The project is aimed at eradicating poverty in Africa. It would make women become independent and self-reliance and it would educate young disadvantage girls with ICT. It would also create job opportunities for girls and women in Africa.
Past Project
- Kate Tales foundation visits schools in various cities in Ibadan and organize writing workshops for all.
- Kate Tales Foundation visits the Juvenile Correctional Institute to lecture young girls in sex education and their right.
- Kate Tales Foundation visits schools in Lagos including an invitation to empower the students of Leads College and other schools in Lagos with leadership skills.
- Kate Tales Foundation hosted it maiden Authors Talk in conjunction with the Goethe Institut with an aim to inspire and encourage young unpublished writers.
The African Women Empowerment project is open for partnership and sponsorship from international and local organizations and individuals.

About the Founder
Kate Ekanem is a writer and a Girl’s Right Activist born on February 24, 1994. In 2012, her first travel story, ‘Journey from Kora-Le Berlin’ with the ‘Derive Project’, Austria was published online, translated in French, German and other languages. In 2013, her second story titled ‘Lagos to Ibadan’ was published on online journals. In 2015, she’s chosen to represent Nigeria and (AU) African Union in the G(irl)20 Summit Istanbul, Turkey. She is also a delegate for the Development Dialogue Lagos, Nigeria and she currently runs a column on Pulse online magazine about womanhood and albinism.
