Abubakar Adam Ibrahim winner 2016 NLNG Prize

Abubakar Adam Ibrahim has been declared winner of 2016 NLNG Prize for Literature. On the shortlist were Chika Unigwe, past winner of the prize and 2015 Caine Prize shortlisted writer, Elnathan John.

In 2014, his short story, Whispering Trees was shortlisted for the Caine Prize for African Writing. Often referred to as the Gabriel Marquez of our time, Abubakar was mentioned as one of Africa’s foremost contemporary writers under the age of 40 in Africa39: New Writing from Africa South of the Sahara with his short story, Echoes of Mirth.
