PRAXIS MAGAZINE ONLINE ANNOUNCES NEW PLATFORM FOR HAUSA LITERATURE IN KANO: The Praxis Hangout held on the 20th of July, 2019 in Kano.

The hangout, themed around mental health had a record attendance that drew the likes of Hajiya Balaraba Ramat (Writer/ Film Producer) ANA Kanos’ Mall. Zaharaddeen Kallah, Dr. Maryam Ali Ali of Virtual Authors and, the winner of this years’ Wole Soyinka International Cultural Exchange Essay Competition, Mujaheed Ameen Lilo, amongst others.

The Guest Speaker, Dr. Mustapha Ibrahim Gudaji, whose vast knowledge on psychiatry and drug abuse, enabled him provide a better understanding of mental illnesses from a medical perspective. He also was able to discuss depression, suicide, post-partum depression and the attribution of mental illnesses to lack of spirituality. He also spoke about the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital in Kano, and its’ vigorous fight towards demystifying mental illnesses. He urged everyone to treat people with mental health challenges as they would any human and to help reduce the stigma placed around seeking help for mental illnesses.

At the closing remark, Dr. Ismael Bala, who represented Praxis Magazine Online’s’ Tee Jay Dan, announced the new addition to the Praxis family. Gatanan Gatanan Ku will be Praxis home for all things Hausa Art. It is set to publish prose, poetry, fiction and creative non-fiction written in Hausa. It will also publish texts translated into Hausa. It hopes to follow that with podcasts, scriptwriting and films in future.

The hangout held between 2 pm to 5 pm Nigerian time, at the American Space, Murtala Muhammad Library, Ahmadu Bello way, Nasarawa, Kano State.
